Know our Seals and Certifications

USDA ORGANIC: United States Department of Agriculture – Organic Certified.

The organic standards describe the specific requirements verified by a USDA-accredited certifying agent before products can be labeled USDA organic. Our coffees are 100% organic certified with the USDA organic seal that corroborates that irradiation, sewage sludge, synthetic fertilizers, prohibited pesticides, and genetically modified organisms were not used and must not be processed using industrial solvents, irradiation, or genetic engineering.

Overall, our organic operations demonstrate that we are protecting natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and using only approved substances.

Fair Trade is a designation developed to help consumers support products that come from farms that have been certified to provide fair wages and safe working conditions. In addition, producers on certified farms are paid a premium to apply to projects such as healthcare, women’s leadership initiatives and micro-finance programs, as voted on by the farmers and workers themselves.

Fair Trade Certified also ensures that farmers obey internationally monitored environmental standards, while empowering farmers and farm workers with financial incentives and resources for organic conversion, reforestation, water conservation and environmental education.

Goods that bear the Fair Trade Certified label carry an independent, third-party-verified guarantee that the farmer received a fair price for the crop, and is empowered to compete in the global marketplace through direct, long-term contracts with international buyers. This market access lifts farming families from poverty through trade — not aid — which keeps food on the table, children in school and families on their land.

Traviesa Coffee makes every coffee unique. This is why we have our own seals identifying this outstanding qualities from each product.

This seal represents the quality of the coffee regarding the cupping profile made by experts from inside (Our certified Q-Graders) and outside of the company. With this seal you can know that the score given is 86+.

Here is the seal that certifies that the product comes from a single farm, guaranteeing the highest quality and supplying all the traceability of the entire chain of production.

Single Origin means that our coffee comes from a specific region, combining the best products of different farms and maintaining the quality and the characteristics that we expect from the profiles of each region with the specific notes and flavors and guaranteeing the year-long production with the highest standards.

Colombian soil and exceptional weather makes it the perfect place to cultivate the best and most unique coffees. This is why we have Tabi, Wush Wush, Bourbon and others, planted and harvested with exceptional practices and giving a result of marvelous specialty coffees. Some of this varietals are exclusive from Colombia and some have been developed by investigation centers.

We have our own farms and we also have other coffee producers that work with Traviesa Coffee a long time ago. The farms we work with have and will always have the support of the brand, working hand on hand with the farmers and coffee workers, improving their processes, empowering them and being a support in every way offering direct trade.

In this part we pay a lot of attention to the processes developed in the farms. The entire process from the harvest, fermentation, sun dry and everything depending on the result wanted (Honey, Natural, etc.) is important and will make the coffee a one of a kind.

This one is showing what is done after it arrives our mill plant from the farms, like hand picking, zero defects, peaberry and tailor-made depending on the customer needs. Everything is made under supervision and by experts.

Colombia is a very privileged country. Due to the Andes Range we can cultivate coffee in different heights. The High Grown seal goes on the coffees that are grown from 1.600 to 1.700 M.A.S.L. and on.

Farms that alternate its coffee plantations with others like mango, plantain, orange and others that provide shade to the coffees. This is very important because it can help the coffee beans not to burn from the sun or to present other damages. In addition, some of this plantations also serve as a natural soil fertilizer.

Natural Ethyl Acetate is derived from sugar cane and combined with fresh spring water to strip caffeine from the coffee at decaffeination plant in Manizales city where is located our Export plant. The method used to decaffeinate with Ethyl Acetate is an FDA approved chemical-free process in which no additions of foreign substances come in contact with the coffee. The original aroma and flavor characteristics from the coffee remain even after 97% of the caffeine is gone, along with any residual Ethyl Acetate beyond the roasting process.

☛ Water is natural: It takes from a spring water located near the plant, is passing through a sand trap and is settles only, and no other treatment is used for the process and steam boiler.

We can say that this water has been tested extensively and is of excellent quality, suitable for use in processes of coffee (a coffee plant cannot use piped water standard, because they use chemicals to make it safe and can alter organoleptically the coffee).

☛ Our natural solvent is produced from sugar cane, obtained by controlled fermentation of sugarcane molasses, and refined to the highest degree of purity that we require in the process (99.9% purity).
